SVS NOS 5 - OP ******

As a final Activity before the dreaded exams, we met up at VILLA DEI VAGANTI (Jolen's place), for a SVS PRE-EXAM BASH!!

This was pretty much the best SVS NOS, it was ultra-social, loads of fun and we were all pretty dissapointed that we eventually had to go back home and leave the SVS-ing behind for the next month or so.

We first went to get some grub from the Southern Fried Chicken close to Jolen's house. After pigging out over there we headed back to the VILLA for some fun and games.

SVS walking back from the meal

Back at Jolen's house we played a bunch of games including a Scouting Quiz set out by the VSL.

The two teams of recruits were very close and i think it actually ended in a tie.

The next game was a sort of 'get to know your friends better' game whereby each particapant has to write some true comments bout himself and some false and the rest must guess which are true and which are false.

We then played a mind-boggling maths/IQ game which Corrieri had got with him - this was quite intriguing.

Andrew, Ian and Munir enduring the gruelling IQ Game.

Before the Actvity the Unit members were told to prepare a Limerick about another Unit member. These were recited during the Activity- they were all funny, all a little nasty too and some even had a moral!

We have a Unit of budding Poets!!

There was also a non-Unit member in this Activity --- MAX!! Jolen's cool dog

He was real playful and even let me ride him, we played with him a bit and he even sang a little for us.

The Next Unit meeting is set for June, after the members' exams. I might post an update if anything worth noting happens before that time.

Best of Luck in your exams guys!

SVS Aerial Runway at Verdala

The Unit was asked to build and manage an Aerial Runway at Verdala as part of the Troop and Pack Easter Camp.

The VSL, AVSL and RVS Munir arrived at Verdala camping grounds at 0800 and immediately began the rig.

The Aerial Runway/Flyfox

At about noon the event began as part of the

Troop Assualt Course. The Scouts had to be equipped with harness, gloves and helmet (and sometimes a chest harness for the tiny scouts)- they would then be hooked on to the flyfox by the VSL and sent flying down where they would be stopped and helped out.

The Kitchen staff supplied us with ftiras and a much needed lunch break. When we were done with all the Scouts the Cubs had their go, then the Leaders and even the kitchen staff!!

Munir trying to unhook a scout at the end of the runway

Martin Farrugia and Miki Sammut helped us all throughout the Activity along with various Cub and Scout leaders who helped kit their boys up and see them off.

Our very own Munir has fallen and can't get up!!

The Unit spent around 11hrs on site, and it was quite a bit of hard work, but we did have quite a few laughs and it was an overall fun activity! Everyone appreciated the work put in a real lot and to give the Cubs and younger Scouts such an adventure was quite rewarding!

When all the Scouts, Scout Leaders, Cubs, Cub Leaders & Kitchen staff had had their turn we played with the Flyfox ourselves trying out fun stuff such asd the Superman!

We wore our harnesses the other way around and incorporated a wrong-way-round chest harness and went down face first!

This Sunday the Unit should be attending the Troop Campfire.

ABSEIL TAD-DULURI!!

Hi guys!
Last weekend was very much action-packed.

Friday Night was the feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows, so the Sliema Group Headed the Procsession as always. The Unit had representatives also - The VSL, AVSL and I were present. The rest of the Unit weren't expected to participate since they're all supposed to be studying!

On Sunday we headed to Wied Ix-Xaqqa once again for some Abseil Training.

The Trainnee was the AVSL and he was accompanied by the VSL (the Instructor), Munir (a recruit who came to help out and learn some stuff himself) and myself (for moral support).

As you can see from the photos it was a real nice day, bit hot, and even from on top of the cliff we could see the bottom of the sea!

Check it out!

The AVSL tried new techniques such as rebelaying and abseiling with his left hand.

Munir had his first SVS abseil and also learnt how to lock.

Munir is a rocker - so for him this picture is cool and doesn't look silly like it does to us!

Couple of Social Activities are in the pipeline before Summer!
the leaders are meeting up once a week to make sure the so-called
'ball' keeps rolling

until then,

SVS NOS EPISODE 4

On Saturday, 1st April, the Unit held the 4th Episode in the SVS NOS Series. This time we did something special and invited the Stag Patrol to join us.

Martin one of the Scouts

We started with a game of bowling, with mixed teams, so as to get to know each other better.
It must have been a good ice breaker coz we spent the rest of the evening laughing

The guys

The Bowling was fun even though some of us really didn't stand a chance. Jolen won the game by quite a lead! I think he's been training since the last Bowling Activity.

Ian was quite the salvagg and almost destroyed half the bowling alley while Munir (aka Grace Delicata) did very very well (as you can see in this photograph of his score)

After the game of bowling we all went out for a couple of drinks! All went well, we had loads of fun and made a bunch of new (?) friends!

Meli satisfied after a good round!

ASL Timmy giggling hehe

Gunz and friends

Jolen the Winner

Ian 'is-salvagg' bowling

Mike Delia (AKA Dulli) celebrating.

The two teams were very close; in fact the winning team only won by 3 points thanks to last minute heroics by Gerada!

I think everyone enjoyed the festivities- another brilliant SVS Event!

Everyone's very busy at the moment,
as am I!
