The (Great) Anniversary Post!

Friday 10th November was the one year anniversary of my blog!!!
If you browse through the previous posts you will notice that i have an unbroken log of all the Unit's activites in the past year. We've had so much fun and so much has changed over this last year.

Xmas parties represent alot of change in the Unit, it's the time of year when we look back at the past year and reflect upon what we've acheived and where we've come and it's also the time of year when we look to the future and envisage what we want to do within the next year, and more.

Coinicidentally we held the SVS Xmas party of the same day as the anniversary, 10/11/06, so this is The Great Anniversary Post and also the XMAS PARTY POST -

The VSL and Myself

This year we went to a secret location to hold our trditional XMAS PARTY. We played a bunch of games, danced abit, reflected abit and even played a bit of football! Key parts included the VSL's annual, heartfelt xmas speech and the reindeer hat who's made his 2nd SVS appearance (he's gunna become a tradition i can feel it!) .

errrrr it's not what it looks like!!! i was helping him with the presents!! how did this get in here :S

Next year we plan on taking on much tougher challenges than this year

In 2006 we did loads of cool stuff, the newbies really learnt alot!

In 2007 they'll be up for much tougher stuff!

IHQ Football Tournament

Yesterday (Saturday 4th Nov) we took part in the IHQ Inter-Unit Football Tournament. This was held in Naxxar. SVS were up against Naxxar and Xghajra in Group C.

SVS were victorious over the home team in the first game which they we won 6-1! We didn't let this go to our heads coz afterwatching Xghjra play it looked like the 2nd game wouldn't be easy at all.

In fact in the 2nd game we were pretty much deadlocked. It was an intense and aggresive match and our team gave it their all. We scored two goals early on in the game but the Xghajra team persisted and unfortunately they got the draw. The second half saw many chances, many times did the ball hit the lasta but in the end it was Xghajra that went through to the Semi-Final.

We'd better start training for next year's tournament so that we can take home the shield!

In other news - SVS are heading to Gozo next weekend for an early Xmas Party!

Haloweeeeeen

Before the Unit meeting on 31st October we organised a party for the Cubbers.
This was so much fun, the Cubs came dressed with really elaborate costumes!
Apart from music and party food the cubs played haloween style games and even made proper pumpkin Jack-o-Lanterns.
The messy little Cubs seemed to have a real good time it's a real shame we didn't have a camera to take photos of those smiley faces.

Stefan Meli's FOP

We had another SVS NOS on Saturday 28th October to celebrate Stefan Meli's b'day and also as a farewell for him.

Meli at Summer Camp 2005

Meli joined the Unit in July 2004 and was a very active member of the Unit for the last 2 and a half years! We're gunna miss him!

He's guna rejoin us for the football tournament on November 4th since his football skills are indispensable.
Once you're SVS, you're SVS4LIFE

Unit Expo on Foot

Friday's starting point was Mellieha and we hiked it to a secret location along the Dwejra lines were we stayed the night undetected by the people who crowded the area on Saturday morning.

Our bivvies kept us warm even though the temperature was pretty cold outside!

The morning's yomp took us from Dwejra to Buskett were we had a Resup point- here we cooked fresh Lampuki SVS style.

Cooking Lampuki in Buskett - we shared one Lampuka between two people. Delicious!

The idea of cooking this delicious meal came form the fdact that Corrieri and James don't really like fish, at all. In fact it kind of disgusts them. Since it was the only thing to eat & after loads of coaxing they finally ate some, and guess what? They liked it! Of course they liked it - look at it it's mouthwatering!
Saturday evening saw an afternoons tabbing to Wied Babu were we spent the night cooking, feasting and eventually sleeping. In the morning we hiked to Tas-Silg were we all met Capt Bob for the first time. Along the way we stopped for various photo opportunities! Hagar Qim - The Unit is discussing the temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra as part of the theme of the EXPO.

Capt Bob is a cool priest that usually goes by the name of Fr Robert Galea. He served mass for us and then we even had time to chat with him before the van took came to take us home.
Kapella tas-Silg, the final destination, and the home of Capt Bob
This Expo had a historical theme so along the route we visted many historical sites such as: the Selmun Battery, Mistra Battery, Hgar Qim, Mnajdra, Tas-Silg Battery, Fort St Lucian.

It was on B.A. weekend!

SVS goes Football

Since we had signed up for an inter-Unit football tournament organised by iHQ we decided it would be best to do some football training. We used the Unit meeting of 10th October as a Training meeting, which we held in a super top-secret subterranean exclusively SVS training pitch. It was built specially for us and the intense playing conditions we were under surely made us much better than we were, we are definitely going home with the trophy!
The tournament is to be held on Sat 4th November.
Here are some pix of the Training Session:
