M-Coy Training Navex 1

On Saturday night we had the first Training Navex for the M-Coy. This is a walk-through, Talk-through Navigation Exercise; the training company is split into teams of 3 (or 2) and are accompanied by a leader (or member of the advanced coy) for a hike along which they are given instructions on some more advanced navigational skills.

Everyone learnt something on Saturday, and i don't only mean navigational skills but even common sense stuff. The boys werre forced to do some double time when they were late so some of them really suffered, but despite the sufferage i think everyone enjoyed it and it will be a memory they will hold dear - there first SVS field operation!!!!

See ya later

Start of Unit Room Refurbishmen ... Weekend Part 4 !!!

We had decided that the Unit end of HQ had gotten a bit stale and needed a change. Some things needed fixing, painting and whatever. On Sunday we started the first phase of our refurbishments by emptying the Unit room completely, sanding down all the furniture and even started some painting.

The M-Coy are doing this project as part of the V-Badge, by showing their commitment to the Unit.

Now you've seen exactly what kind of a weekend we've had!
The boys are attending a Course of First Aid with St John Ambulance twice a week, and the AVSL is also doing a Lifesaving Course with the Royal Life Saving Soceity.

GREGORY's CUP!! ... weekend pt 3

Saturday was a long day for the Unit!
It was the first day of the annual Gregory's Cup (a Troop Activity during which the Patrols battle it out to win the prestigious and coveted Trophy).
During the Gregory's Cup the Patrols must walk a tough route with many checkpoints, on these checkpoints they are tested on their practical Scouting Skills and knowledge.

The Unit were called to man the checkpoints on this first day. We set off at 1100 and were split into groups of 2. all we had to do was wait for the patrols to arrive and quiz them on the topic involved. It was a good day out, a bit tiring since we spent quite a few hours out in the sun, but i guess it's always worth it since the boys enjoy it so.

Crossing of the Line and IKLA ... Weekend Part 2 !!!

On Friday night the 2nd half of the M-coy crossed the figuritive line from the Troop to the Unit. We welcome them with open arms and we're sure that they'll fit right in (seems like they've fit in already!!)

The first part of the Ceremony was a Troop Investiture, this was followed by our boys' Crossing.

During the final part of the Ceremony the AVSL, Anthony Debono, was Awarded The Dolphin Award by the Chief Commisioner. The Dolphin Award is this highest Award in the Venture
Progress Training Scheme and ultimately the Highest Award that can be earned as a Scout. The Chief, who rarely attends Group functions like these, had a lot of nice things to say about, the boys and the Award.

After the ceremony we went out to celebrate at Hank's along with the Troop Leaders and older Scouts.
